Three-time world champion Miguel Cotto, will be putting his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title on the line, to take on International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight champion Joshua Clottey in a world welterweight champion, Promoted by Top Rank, the Cotto vs. Clottey World Welterweight Championship will take place Saturday, June 13 at Madison Square Garden.

Joshua Clottey is comming off a September win (TD9) against Zab Judah, while Cotto looked in perfect form taking on limited Brit Michael Jennings at MSG on Feb. 21.

The winner will unify both titles and provide with a solid opponent for the current WBA strap holder Shane Mosley by the end of the year. The other champion of the division holding the green WBC belt is Andre Berto.

This marks the fourth time in the past five years Cotto will headline a show at The Garden on the eve of New York’s National Puerto Rican Day Parade. The fight will be broadcast live on HBO World Championship Boxing, beginning at
10:35 p.m. ET/ 7:35 p.m. PT.

Undercard - Ivan Calderon to make garden Debut in world title defense against top rated Rodel mayol on undercard.

Rodel Mayol of the Philippines will face defending WBO light-fly champion Ivan Calderon of Puerto Rico. The 27-year-old Mayol (25-3-0, 19 KOs) is penciled to challenge Calderon (32-0-0, 6KOs) in the undercard of the superfight between Miguel Cotto and Joshua Clottey at the Madison Square Garden.

The popular “Little Giant” from Guaynabo, fought in Queens, New York in his third professional fight, but has not been back to the “Big Apple” since 2001. One of the most popular boxers in Puerto Rico, Calderon is 15-0 in
world championship fights.
