Ford 400 presented by Ford
Location: Homestead, Miami
Speedway:Homestead Miami Speedway
When: Sunday Nov. 21th, 2010 |
With it's inception in 1999, the Ford 400 has grown in favor with NASCAR fans by leaps and bounds. The Ford 400 took a major leap in popularity when it became the last race of the NASCAR season, meaning the results of the race had a major impact on the Nextel Cup standings.
Over the years the raceway has gone through many renovations by widening the turns on the track and raising the banking level for a higher speed of racing. Shortly afterwards, lights were installed to allow night racing for the first time. The renovations were praised by fans, and the track has produced a number of close finishes, including 2005's last-lap battle between Greg Biffle and Mark Martin.
The Homestead Miami Speedway hosts the Sprint Series championship weekend, which includes the Ford 400 Sprint Cup Series Race, the Ford 300 Nationwide Series Race, and the Ford 200 Craftsman Truck Series Race.
In 2008, Tony Stewart cruised to his second NASCAR championship in four years at the Ford 400, capping an uncharacteristically calm season for the former bad boy. He won races, kept his temper in check and avoided every major incident long enough to cement himself as one of the greatest drivers of his time.
