Bernard Hopkins vs. Enrique Ornelas
Wednesday, Dec 2 6:00p
at Liacouras Center, Philadelphia, PA
Bernard Hopkins (49-5-1, 32 KO) will face Enrique Ornelas (29-5, 19KOs). Hopkins-Ornelas will take place on December 2 in Philadelphia, Bernard's hometown. It will be Hopkins' first time fighting in Philadelphia since March of 2003, when he knocked out Morrade Hakkar in eight rounds at The Spectrum.
The 12-round light heavyweight matchup for Hopkins (49-5-1, 32 knockouts) precedes an agreed-upon rematch with Florida's multi-champion Roy Jones (54-5, 40 KOs) that is slated for perhaps late January or early February, assuming Jones gets through his cruiserweight bout on the same night against Austrailia's Danny Green (27-3, 24 KOs). Should Hopkins and Jones both win in Dec., they'll meet on HBO PPV early next year under a deal that will see them split everything 50-50, unless there is a knockout. In the event of a knockout, the winner will receive 60 percent of the revenue.
Hopkins has not been in the ring since Oct. 18, when he beat world champion Kelly Pavlik via unanimous decision to rebound from an April 2008 loss to unbeaten Joe Calzaghe.
Ornelas, has fought as a middleweight and super middleweight, so he'll be moving up in weight to face Hopkins. Ornelas, 29, is 4-3 in his last seven bouts, but he's coming off a fourth-round knockout victory against Roberto Baro on July 30 and has faced some quality opponents, including former junior middleweight titlist Bronco McKart (twice), Sam Soliman and Marco Antonio Rubio.
