The Sharp Aquos 500 Sprint Cup series race has been renamed the Pepsi 500. Held in Fontana, CA this event is one of the new breeds of NASCAR odds event that have migrated out of the traditional stomping grounds of the south and ventured out West for some exciting NASCAR betting odds in California and other racing rich states. This is the fourth race of the Chase for the Championship and is held at a very fast, state of the art super speedway that is perfect for wide open driving and pretty clean racing, at least by NASCAR odds standards.

Two big NASCAR weekends happen at this 2-mile oval: in February, a Craftsman Truck race one day and a Nationwide Series (formerly Busch Series) the next lead up to the Sprint Cup's Auto Club 500; on Labor Day weekend, it's another 300-lap Nationwide race and then the California 500 (most recently titled Pepsi 500, and nicknamed 'The Finish Under the Lights').

Started in 1997 the Auto Club 500 has gone through a handful of sponsors but the top quality NASCAR odds competition has remained the same. Over the years this NASCAR betting odds event has been dominated by the new breed of drivers.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup replaces the previous Nextel Cup and origional Winston Cup which got its name from the Winston cigarette division of the R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. that sponsored the series for links 30 years beginning in 1972. The Cup Series is the elite in stock car racing with the best drivers and the fastest and most powerful cars. Cup racing also draws the most recognition and pays the most prize money to its team owners and drivers for their accomplishments at each of the more than 20 tracks that are sanctioned by NASCAR for the Cup races.

Jimmie Johnson held off his Hendrick Motorsports teammate, Jeff Gordon, by 1.604 seconds to win his 45th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series career race, as he took the Pepsi 500 checkered flag at Auto Club Speedway.

This is Johnson’s fifth series win of the 2009 season, his fourth series win at Auto Club Speedway and the first to win the Pepsi 500 for three consecutive seasons.
