The Sharpie 500 is a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stock car race held at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee. It is one of two Sprint Cup races held at Bristol, the other being the Food City 500, but the Sharpie 500 is by far the more popular of the two. Since 1978, the race has been held in late-August on a Saturday night, and is considered among the most difficult races on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Race Schedule.
The night race at Bristol has traditionally seen battles and fights between bitter rivals who will never lift their grudges. The track’s layout can be the considered the cause of some of this drama. Because of the banking, it is considered the fastest half-mile track in the world. When you get drivers traveling bumper to bumper at these speeds, making it very difficult to pass, it is only a matter of time before road rage takes links.
