Event name: UFC 102: Couture vs. Nogueira

Date: August 29, 2009

Location: Portland, Oregon

Venue: Rose Garden
Broadcast: Pay-per-view

Two of the sport’s most decorated and beloved heavyweights will cross paths for the first time when Randy Couture locks horns with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in the UFC 102 main event on Aug. 29 at the Rose Garden Arena in Portland, Ore. The last time the heaveyweights fought, Couture lost his title to Brock Lesnar at UFC 91 while Nogueira lost it to Frank Mir at UFC 92.

Both Couture (16-9 MMA, 13-6 UFC) and Nogueira (31-5-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) will be looking to rebound from disappointing losses in their most recent outings.

Nogueira was last seen losing his interim heavyweight title at UFC 92, where Frank Mir TKO’ed him in the 2nd Round. A Brazilian jiu-jitsu and judo black belt and the only man to hold the PRIDE and UFC heavyweight championship belts, “Minotauro” Nogueira ) has the experience and the world-class talent to take out anyone who opposes him in the Octagon. With UFC wins over Heath Herring and Tim Sylvia in his first two UFC bouts, the revered Nogueira quickly made his presence felt in the ultra-competitive heavyweight division. Now the 6-foot-3, 240-pound former interim UFC heavyweight champion looks to get the gold back around his waist.

Keith Jardine (14-5-1 MMA, 6-4 UFC) and Thiago Silva (13-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) Both men will be looking to rebound from a recent loss.

The Dean of Mean” Keith Jardine will meet up with knockout artist Thiago Silva. Despite dropping a close unanimous decision to former light heavyweight champ Quinton Jackson at UFC 96, Jardine has done his share to be atop the 205-pound ladder, putting together a solid record of (6-4) during his time in the Octagon. He’s facing Thiago Silva, who is looking to rebound from his first career loss at UFC 94 at the hands of current UFC light-heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida back in January. Prior to the loss, Silva put together four solid wins inside the UFC over the likes of James Irvin, Tomasz Drwal, Houston Alexander and Antonio Mendes. Only one of Silva's 13 career wins have gone to decision and he has 10 wins by TKO with 2 coming by way of submission. They both need a victory to regain a chance to a title fight.

Opening UFC Odds - Keith Jardine -225 vs. Thiago Silva +185

A middleweight bout between veteran UFC middleweight Chris Leben (18-5 MMA, 8-4 UFC) and recent WEC transplant Jake Rosholt (5-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC).

Chris Leben vs. Jake Rosholt

Chris Leben (18-5), an Oregon native, returns to competition for the first time since his unanimous decision loss to Michael Bisping at October's UFC 89 event. He just finish up serving a 9 month long suspension stemming from his fight at UFC 89, when he tested positive for Stanozololmain.

Jake Rosholt (5-1) a three-time NCAA Division I national wrestling champion and four-time All-American at Oklahoma State University. His five-fight win streak came to a halt when Miller forced him to tap out from a guillotine choke just 63 seconds into their UFC Fight Night 17 bout.
