UFC 106: Lesnar vs. Carwin
When: November 21, 2009
Where: Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas, Nevada
How: PPV
Champ Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin for UFC heavyweight title on Saturday, November 21st live from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Undefeated 6-foot-3, 262-pound top contender Shane Carwin will be Lesnars next mountain to climb in order to retain his heavyweight title. Carwin is looking to dethrone Lesnar and very well may be the man to do so as he is not only as big as Lesnar but someone who has ended all of his fights in the first round. To many this is expected to go down as the biggest heavyweight title fight ever and may also be the most explosive.
Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin
Former light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz is set to make his return to the Octagon opposite the first-ever heavyweight champion for a re match fight against Forrest Griffin, at UFC 106.
Ortiz last saw action at UFC 84 in a losing effort against current UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida. Ortiz managed to take Machida to the distance and even came close to finishing him off during the fight. It’s widely believed that Ortiz is the one fighter who has come the closest to defeating Machida and it will be very interesting to see if he can earn a rematch with “The Dragon” in the near future.
As for Griffin, he was last seen sprinting to his locker room after he was knocked unconscious by UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva with the most vicious and devastating walking-away jab the Octagon has ever witnessed.
Since that humiliating loss at UFC 101 in August, Griffin has stayed below the MMA radar. He recently took a break from training to tie the knot to his long-time girlfriend, so things aren’t all bad for the popular slugger.
However, Forrest does need a win pretty badly, especially if you take into account he’s gone a mundane 2-2 over his last four outings.
