Evans and Silva both share something in common, Both lost their undefeated records after being systematically destroyed by the urine-powered karate of Lyoto Machida. Rashad Evans, was the most recent victim of "The Dragon" in a shoop-worthy knockout that saw Evans go limp at UFC 98 back in May.
Despite the loss, The Ultimate fighter (TUF) 10 coach is a bona fide star. In addition to knocking Chuck Liddell back into the "Ice" ages, he dismantled Forrest Griffin at UFC 92 to usurp the 205-pound title.
Thiago Silva, also had been climbing his way through the ranks of light heavyweight and was one fight away from a title shot until Machida knocked him out at UFC 94 last January. Silva has won 14 of his first 15 pro fights. His fifth win in the UFC, was a 95 second KO victory links Jardine at UFC 102, with four coming via KO/TKO and one by submission. The 26-year-old has put away his opponents within two rounds in all of his UFC wins and he looks to throw his name in the UFC title contention hat with a win links former world titleholder Rashad Evans.
Silva is the perfect fighter for Evans in his quest to recapture the light heavyweight title. Evans is a methodical counter puncher with power in his hands and feet while Silva is an aggressive fighter who is willing to take risks to get the victory. Look for Evans to employ a similar game plan to that of Machida when he fought Silva. Silva’s aggressiveness was used against him as Machida lured him in and eventually scored the knockout.
