Georges St-Pierre Vs. BJ Penn II
Two great fighters in their primes, both ranked in the top five pound-for-pound, meet for the
second time in their careers. It has all the elements.
UFC 94 Georges St. Pierre (17-2-0) vs. BJ Penn (14-4-1) 2 Betting Odds: The long awaited,
dreamed rematch between reigning UFC welterweight champion, Georges “Rush” St. Pierre, taking
on the current UFC lightweight champion, BJ “The Prodigy” Penn, is finally a reality,
January 31st 2009, in UFC 94 Betting Odds.
Georges St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn 2, is already being called, the “biggest fight in Mixed Martial
Arts history”, and with good reason. This bout features two of the best pound-for-pound fighters
in the world, on a collision course, and at the peak of their respective MMA fighting careers.
The 27-year-old, St. Pierre, is without question one of the top-3 pound-for-pound fighters in the
world. Currently at the peak of his fighting career, GSP is coming off 3 very impressive victories
in a row: First, he absolutely outclassed Matt Hughes (43-7-0) for a second time, by submitting him
with a well set up arm-bar. Second, he obliterated Matt Serra (16-5-0) and took his UFC welterweight
title back, in one of the most one-sided bouts you’ll ever see. And finally, the unexpected domination
of Jon Fitch (21-3-0), a fighter who was undefeated in the UFC (8-0) and considered the greatest test
of GSP’s illustrious career.
After his loss to Matt Hughes in UFC 63, BJ “The Prodigy” Penn has stringed together extremely impressive
victories. In The Ultimate Fighter 5 Finale, the 30-year-old Hawaiian chocked out Jens Pulver (22-10-1)
at 3:12 of the 2nd round. Penn followed that victory with a dominating blood-bath (rear-naked choke)
submission of Joe Stevenson in UFC 80. Most recently in UFC 84, Penn destroyed Sean Sherk (37-3-1) to
retain his UFC lightweight title.
Lightweights Manny Gamburyan and Thiago Tavares will square off in Las Vegas. Gamburyan has
confirmed that he has agreed to the 155-pound matchup.
After losing to Nate Diaz due to an injury in the finale of The Ultimate Fighter 5, Gamburyan
posted back-to-back victories over Nate Mohr and Jeff Cox, but was dealt his second UFC loss in
his most recent bout at UFC 87 in August, losing to Rob Emerson via 12-second knockout.
Tavares compiled an undefeated 10-0 record, including a 2-0 mark in the UFC, before losing his
first career bout to Tyson Griffin at UFC 76 last September. He’s since gone just 1-2, earning
a win over Michihiro Omigawa at UFC Fight Night 12 in January while dropping his two most recent
bouts to Matt Wiman and Kurt Pellegrino at UFC 85 in June and UFC 88 in September.
