Monday Night Football Week 4

New England Patriots vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Already people are starting to wonder, if the New England Patriots (3-0) stay healthy, can they finish the season undefeated?  It’s no wonder too, the Patriots have looked great on both sides of the ball.  The Pats are averaging 38 points per game, which was easy to figure out, because they’ve scored 38 in every game this season.  They opened the season with a 38-14 victory at the Jets, and have followed that up with 38-14 and 38-7 victories against the Chargers and Bills respectably.  The Pats are in the top five of every major NFL statistic on offense and defense.  If there is a better team in the NFL right now, it’s a surprise to me.  Randy Moss looks like the Randy Moss of new.  He already has five of the 10 touchdowns Tom Brady has thrown.  Also, the running back combinations of Laurence Maroney and Sammy Morris have combined for over 4.5 yards per carry and two touchdowns.

The Bengals on the other hand have struggled out of the gate.  After winning their season opener against Baltimore, they have dropped their last two to the Cleveland Browns and Seattle Seahawks, both games on the road.  In both games they were in it all the way, losing 51-45 to the Browns, in an early candidate of game of the year, and to Seattle 24-21.  Where they are hurting is the defense.  In the same statistics the Pats are tops in, the Bengals are at, or near the bottom in the same ones.

Offensively the Bengals match-up with anyone.  Chad Johnson is averaging over 17 yards per catch, and T.J. Houshmanzadeh has four catches for touchdowns himself.  But, some bad news is also coming out of Cincinnati about the usually resilient Rudi Johnson.  Johnson hurt his hamstring in the Seattle game, and it is still being determined if he will play against the Pats.  It would be a big loss if he can’t go.

With the Patriots offense, and the Bengals Defense it’s seems fairly academic to pick the Pats in this one.  Even though the game is in Cincinnati, it doesn’t seem that will be enough to derail the train of Patriots.  I believe the Bengals might be able to hang early, but the defense will eventually subside to the offensive prowess of New England.  38-21 Patriots.
