College hoops betting action is heating up and if you aren’t in the money, use my weekly betting picks to get your mercury rising!

My first NCAA basketball expert pick for this week is on Wednesday, Jan. 10. That night, Top 10 ranked Xavier heads to Pennsylvania to battle Top 5 ranked Villanova.

One of Saturday’s top matchups has Arizona hosting Oregon. Can Oregon pull the upset over the Arizona Wildcats?

Another top game has ACC foes Notre Dame and North Carolina throwing down. Which team gets it done on the hardwood in South Bend on Saturday night?

NCAA Basketball Expert Picks Jan 8-14

#5 Xavier at #3 Villanova
When:  Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 8:00 pm ET
Where: Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, PA
TV: FS1

Analysis: Xavier and Villanova are two of the top teams in the deep Big East Conference. The two Big East powerhouses haven’t battled since Feb. 11, 2017. That game turned out to be all about Villanova. The Wildcats beat the Musketeers 73 to 57. Can Villanova beat Xavier again?

Villanova shouldn’t have much trouble beating Xavier by close to 10 points in this game on Wednesday. Nova’s allowing 68 points per game. They average over 88 per. Xavier is good. They’re not good enough to challenge Villanova in Philadelphia.

Pick: Villanova

Oregon at #14 Arizona
When:  Saturday, Jan. 13 at 2:00 pm ET
Where: McKale Center, Tucson, AZ
TV: ESPN 2

Analysis: Oregon isn’t close to the team that challenged Arizona for Pac-12 supremacy the past couple of seasons. That’s what happens to the Ducks when a player like Dillon Brooks graduates. Oregon doesn’t reload.

The Arizona Wildcats reload, though. The best center I’ve seen since Anthony Davis at Kentucky plays for the Wildcats. DeAndre Ayton is an absolute beast. He’s averaging over 20 points and over 11 boards per game.

Oregon’s got no player that can hang with Ayton. The fact that Zona will throw Alonzo Trier and Rawle Alkins at the Ducks as well means that Oregon has no shot.

Pick: Arizona

#12 North Carolina at Notre Dame
When:  Saturday, Jan. 13 at 6:00 pm ET
Where: Purcell Pavilion, South Bend, IN
TV:  ESPN

Analysis: Both North Carolina and Notre Dame have been 2 of the very best teams in college basketball, not just the ACC, the past couple of seasons. The UNC Tar Heels are ranked this season while Notre Dame isn’t.

That shouldn’t matter in this game. What will matter is that Golden Domers Bonzie Colson and Matt Farrell are both injured. Colson will miss this game for sure since he won’t get back to the hardcourt until late February.

The injuries to Farrell and Colson should set things up beautifully for NC to pull off the road win. I like the Heels.

Pick: North Carolina
