My NFL expert picks for Week 6 begin with a couple of teams in the NFC South Division. Can the Atlanta Falcons cover a spread versus the Miami Dolphins on Sunday? How will the New Orleans Saints handle playing as a favorite at home against Detroit? I also like the game between Tampa Bay and Arizona. Will the Cardinals or Buccaneers come out on top?

NFL Week 6 Expert Picks

Miami at Atlanta
When:  Sunday, Oct. 15 at 1:00 pm ET
Where: Mercedez-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, GA
Odds: Atlanta +9

Analysis: The Miami Dolphins are a pretty bad football team. If Tennessee QB Marcus Mariota had played, the Fins might have lost in Week 5. Instead, Miami beat Tennessee 16 to 10.

Atlanta got the week off. The Falcons’ offense hasn’t been nearly as sharp this season as it was last season. But, Atlanta faces an offense that has no shot of keeping up with their offense. The Falcons’ defense isn’t better than Miami’s. Atlanta’s offense, averaging 26 points per game to Miami’s 10.2, is much, much better than Miami’s offense.

I hate laying so many points. However, I have no faith that Miami scores more than 10 to 14 points in this. Atlanta should approach 28 to 35.

Pick: Atlanta +9

Detroit at New Orleans
When:  Sunday, Oct. 15 at 1:00 pm ET
Where: Mercedez-Benz Superdome, New Orleans, LA
Odds: New Orleans -3.5

Analysis: Detroit’s defense blew it early versus the Carolina Panthers in NFL Week 5. That’s why Detroit lost 27 to 24. Lions’ QB Matthew Stafford once again made a furious comeback. It just wasn’t enough.

The problem that Stafford has in this game is two-fold. First, it could be tough keeping up on the scoreboard with the Saints’ offense. Carolina QB Cam Newton threw for 355 yards and 3 TDs. What do you think Drew Brees is going to do?

Second, when Matt tries to bring the Lions’ back, it’s going to be much tougher to do so against the Saints’ defense than it was versus Carolina’s D. New Orleans has one of the hottest defenses in the NFL.

The Saints’ D should have only gelled even more during the bye week. I believe New Orleans wins by at least 6 points.

Pick: New Orleans -3.5

Tampa Bay at Arizona
When:  Sunday, Oct.16 at 4:05 pm ET
Where: University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale, AZ
Odds: Tampa Bay pk

Analysis: I’ve got a big problem with the Arizona Cardinals. I just don’t feel the team plays with any heart. Arizona lost 7 to 34 to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 5. The Eagles’ pass defense ranked twenty-ninth in the league.

If there was any secondary that Cardinals’ QB Carson Palmer should have dominated it was the Eagles’ secondary. Palmer played with no heart. The lines on both offense and defense played with no heart.
At least Tampa Bay wants to win. They might not win every game. But, they want to win. I see the Buccaneers winning straight up.

Pick: Tampa Bay pk
